About this app
Token Clicker is a free idle game about the AI boom that plays in any browser, on desktop and on phones, in seven languages. You click The Prompt, a giant chat bubble that sprays text tokens, and spend them on machines that generate tokens for you, from a single desktop computer all the way to a Dyson Swarm and, eventually, AGI.
It’s an homage to Cookie Clicker, with original code, art and writing, made for idle-game fans and anyone who has lived through a hype cycle. Catch Golden Tokens, dodge Hallucinations, pop the wrapper startups that feed on your output, and try not to trigger the AI-pocalypse. There are 20 machines, 332 upgrades, 273 achievements and 448 satirical news headlines, and your progress keeps building while the tab is closed.
How we built it
The problem
Idle games live or die on pacing. Too fast and there’s nothing left to do by the second day; too slow and nobody comes back. We wanted a satire of the AI boom that stays fun for weeks, which means the numbers behind every machine, upgrade and random event have to be right, and the jokes have to keep coming.
What we shipped
A complete idle game that runs in the browser, with no install and no account. On desktop the whole economy fits on one screen; on phones a tabbed layout keeps the Prompt, the store and the fleet one tap apart. Keyboard shortcuts, sound, progress while you’re away and saves you can export are all there from version 1.0. The first commit landed on 23 September 2026 with the design specs, and version 1.0 went live at tokenclicker.ai the next day.
The writing is a big part of the game. Every machine, upgrade and achievement has its own line, and 448 news headlines scroll across the top of the screen as your AI company grows.
Under the hood
The game rules live in their own engine, separate from the interface and the browser, so the exact same code can run without a screen. That made balancing measurable: a simulator plays two weeks of the game in about a second, and the pacing is tuned so a casual player, with three 20-minute sessions a day, reaches the first AGI in about nine to ten days.
More than 1,600 automated tests cover the engine, and end-to-end tests play the real game in a browser before every release. The trailer and videos were cut from real gameplay recordings with Remotion.
