About this app
julienrenaux.fr is the personal site and tech blog of TrendingDevs’ founder, and the first thing the studio shipped. It has published articles about building software since 2011, and it’s where we write up how our own products are made.
The blog holds more than 60 articles: tutorials on Angular, Ionic, Redux, webpack and Web Components, reviews of AI coding tools, and build stories for Thumb & Pylon, Token Clicker and EVPick, each with its stack and its bill. Posts are filed by category and tag, a search box covers all of them, and a talks page collects slides from conference presentations. The homepage is a short 3D film that you scroll through, scene by scene.
How we built it
The problem
A blog that has been online since 2011 has two jobs that pull against each other. Tutorials from 2013 are still read, so their addresses, code samples and reading comfort can’t break. And the homepage is the first impression of the person behind the studio, so it has to feel current, not like a WordPress theme from the year the blog opened.
What we shipped
The blog started on WordPress in August 2011. In February 2019 we moved it to Hugo, a static site generator: every post became a Markdown file in a Git repository, pages are built ahead of time, and the old dated addresses kept working. A new design built with Tailwind CSS and daisyUI followed in December 2025.
In September 2026 the homepage became a scroll-driven 3D world. Five scenes (a workshop, an office, an arcade, a reading room and a giant laptop) are joined into one camera flight, and your scroll position drives the camera. Two days later the blog, posts, tags, search and error pages were redesigned to match, with the same porcelain and indigo palette, glass panels, and the reading-room scene drawn faintly behind the text, in light and dark mode.
Under the hood
The world is a chain of short pre-rendered video clips: one that flies into each scene, and one that connects each pair of scenes. The page scrubs through them as you scroll, so the motion follows your trackpad or finger exactly, forwards and backwards. Each connecting clip starts on the exact last frame of the clip before it and ends on the first frame of the next one, so there’s no visible jump between scenes. Phones get their own portrait version of every clip, framed for a tall screen instead of cropped.
Every scene was generated from the same style description and the same recurring character, which is what makes separately made dioramas read as one world.
Because the world is assembled in the browser, the homepage also ships its full text as plain HTML: the introduction, the products and the link to the blog. Visitors without JavaScript and search engines read the same content as everyone else. The whole site is static.
